Information and News for Student Advisers Abroad

The Global Adviser Newsletter provides information for advisers, counselors, and others who work with students who want to study in the U.S. This email newsletter will be sent occasionally to provide important information about the admissions process, recruitment visits, opportunities for international students, and general news and events at the University of Minnesota. Don't Miss the Deadlines!

  • Fall 2011 Freshman Housing Guarantee Deadline: May 2, 2011
                                  Submit the housing application contract and a $25 non-refundable fee to Housing & Residential Life so it is received by or postmarked by Sunday, May 2, 2011, to be eligible for guaranteed housing.

  • Fall 2011 Enrollment Confirmation Deadline: May 2, 2011
                                  When studentsconfirm their enrollment, they are declaring their intent to attend the University of Minnesota, and we will reserve a place for them in the incoming class. Students must return the enrollment confirmation form (which was included with their admission letter) and a $225 confirmation fee to the Office of Admissions by May 2, 2011. Confirmation forms and fees received after the May 2, 2011, postmark priority deadline are accepted on a space-available basis.

New International Student Seminar: Succeeding at the U

In fall 2010, International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) piloted a new mid-semester orientation program that addresses students’ strengths and challenges in their first semester. TheNew International Student Seminar is an opportunity for students to connect with campus support services, staff, and other students. The Seminar will be offered every semester to new students.

Internationalizing the Curriculum & Campus

The U of M hosted its second annual Internationalizing the Curriculum & Campus Conference on March 25, 2011, on the Twin Cities campus. This conference is open to all U of M faculty, staff, and students interested in collaborating to increase internationalization and global learning at the University.

Name-Change Announcement: Global Programs and Strategy Alliance

The Office of International Programs is now the Global Programs and Strategy Alliance. The GPS Alliance is the central international office for the University of Minnesota system and is the driving force for the University in globalizing teaching, learning, research, and engagement. The new name better reflects the unit's scope of work and increasing responsibilities.
